Welcome to another exciting issue of the FAMU Forward newsletter. In this latest edition, we continue our efforts to inform you about the exciting accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
During this special time of year and conclusion of the fall semester, I’d like to thank all members of the University family for your dedication toward keeping FAMU among the best national universities in America. Also, in light of the recent tragic events taking place around the world, it is more important than ever to always put our best foot forward and live each and every day to the fullest.
As caretakers of FAMU’s precious legacy, we are committed to ensuring we do everything possible to assist others in reaching their fullest potential. With this in mind, years of study and sacrifice will culminate during another University commencement ceremony on Dec. 11. I congratulate each graduating senior, with special congratulations to our honor students, graduating veterans, and the most recent graduating scholars selected as recipients of the Strong Finish Award. The Strong Finish Award is presented each semester to graduates who have maintained a 3.0 GPA without a talent or merit-based scholarship while completing their individual degree programs within four years. The goal of the program is to provide resources that will enable graduates to begin repaying student loans and other debt accumulated while seeking their degree.
As we commend our graduating seniors and celebrate their accomplishments, I also want to congratulate the efforts of the many parents, family members, and key supporters who have dedicated themselves and provided the resources needed to help their student reach this special moment in time. You too are shining heroes and sheroes who deserve a pat on the back for your unselfish acts of love.
To our returning students, please enjoy this well-deserved break with family and friends. But most importantly, during this time of restoration, prepare yourselves to return to the “Hill” charged up, with a burning desire to do what is required of you to join the ranks of our proud and accomplished alumni.
To our newest alumni, always remember to give thanks for the strength and courage it took for you to finish the race. But more importantly, wherever life’s journey takes you, never forget that you are a highly valued and cherished member of a great and wonderful “FAMULY.”
Stay strong, be safe, and congratulations, Rattlers!
