FAMU President Hosts Leadership Retreat
On May 18, FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., gathered more than a hundred of the University’s leaders at Bradley’s Pond for a retreat that served to kick off a new tradition for his administration, as well as prepare for the rollout of FAMU’s new customer service initiative, which is a component of its new five-year Strategic Plan, “FAMU Rising.”
FAMU’s vice presidents, deans, directors, associate and assistant vice presidents, associate and assistant deans, associate and assistant directors and other key staff gathered for day-long training, working sessions and information sharing to develop and discuss strategies focused on achieving institutional goals, as aligned with the Strategic Plan, President’s Goals and State Performance Metrics.
The event also focused on student success and innovative ways to offer remarkable student experiences. The President plans to host this event annually as a part of his commitment to customer service, performance and accountability.
FAMU Professor Named International Ambassador
FAMU School of Business and Industry professor Roscoe Hightower, Ph.D., has been named the first European Facility Management (EuroFM) Network Ambassador for the United States of America and has been selected to attend an international ambassadors assembly during the EuroFM Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria. The conference will be held on June 5.
Hightower is the Centennial Eminent Scholar Chair and a professor of marketing and facility management at FAMU. He also serves on the Facility Management Accreditation Commission (FMAC) Board of Commissioners.
The EuroFM association has members in 23 different countries representing research institutes, universities and service providers.
FAMU Center Wins Prudential Productivity Award
FAMU’s Candidate Empowerment Center team will receive a Prudential Productivity Award on June 5. The Prudential Productivity Award is a joint effort of the Florida TaxWatch, the Florida Council of 100, and the State of Florida, and honors state employees throughout Florida who has significantly increased productivity in delivering state services and products. In addition to honoring innovative and cost-saving accomplishments, the awards program recognizes the measurable contributions and added value of individuals and teams.
The Candidate Center offers teacher education candidates academic support and assists in their preparation for the General Knowledge Examination, Professional Education Examination, and Subject Area Examination of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination via practice exams, tutoring and print resources, which help improve course and pass rates. Pamela G. Thompson, Ph.D., is the director of the Candidate Empowerment Center.

Based on data from the Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education, Florida A&M University is listed among the top 12 overall private and public institutions of higher education in Florida. The listing is a part of the U.S. College Rankings presented by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education have united to give students and their families the information they need to help them choose where to study. It surveys more than 200,000 current American college students annually to help determine the best colleges for future students.
