FAMU Alumna Named Everett Community College’s Next President
Daria J. Willis, Ph.D., who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Florida A&M University (FAMU), has been named president of Everett Community College (EvCC) in Everett, Washington. Willis, who received a Ph.D. in history from Florida State University, will lead an institution that educates more than 19,000 students a year at several locations throughout Snohomish County, Washington.
A former member of the FAMU Marching “100,” Willis began her teaching career at FAMU before moving to Tallahassee Community College. Prior to being named EvCC president, she was the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York.

The FAMU community celebrates the life and legacy of distinguished alum Dr. LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at Lee Hall Auditorium. Alumnus Promoted to Top Management at the Washington Redskins
FAMU alum Zena Lewis, from Brooklyn, N.Y., was named director of communications for the Washington Redskins. Prior to that, the 1999 School of Journalism & Graphic Communications graduate served as media services coordinator with the Redskins.
Before joining that NFL team, Lewis worked for the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Falcons.
Recent Graduate Accepted into Berklee School of Music in Spain
FAMU’s College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities alumna Widline Sainvil of West Palm Beach, Fla., was accepted into the Berklee School of Music in Valencia, Spain. A mezzo-soprano, Sainvil will be a student in the school’s Production, Innovation, and Technology Master’s Program. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music Industry.
