More than 300 Tallahassee Community College (TCC) prospective transfer students attended the fall 2019 Florida A&M University (FAMU) Day.
Attendance for the recent showcase exceeded turnout for a similar recruiting and advising event last spring, said Randolph Bellamy, assistant director of FAMU Transfer Student Services.
“The Fall 2019 FAMU Day at TCC proved to be a tremendous success. Over 300 prospective TCC student’s attended the event and were exposed to all that FAMU has to offer,” Bellamy said.
Representatives from all FAMU colleges and schools were present to engage students and answer inquiries about program requirements and other issues. Admissions, Financial Aid, Financial Literacy, Scholarships and Student Activities office staff were also on hand to discuss services and offerings available at FAMU.
“Having our Transfer Student Association, Royal Court, cheerleaders and other student groups helped to excite and garner greater attention and attraction the day of the event,” Bellamy said.
According to TCC’s website, 60 percent of FAMU’s transfer students are TCC alumni. FAMU’s Ignite transfer program and its TCC2FAMU partnership helps add to those numbers and enables students to transfer to FAMU with ease. About 278 TCC transfer students enrolled at FAMU during the last academic year.
Bellamy said transfer students get individualized guidance with the transfer admissions process to ensure smooth matriculation from their current institution to FAMU. They also benefit from low cost of tuition compared to other state universities, shorter time to degree completion, transfer scholarships and more.
Students who transfer from TCC to FAMU are guaranteed admission with an associate’s degree or 60 college credits. FAMU has similar partnerships with other Florida community colleges.
John Tornes, a FAMU transfer student specialist, said students who transfer from TCC to FAMU benefit when they join the “FAMUly” of thousands of Rattlers around the world and become a part of a legacy that is rich with culture, pride and heritage.
