The ongoing pandemic shouldn’t be an obstacle to Florida A&M University (FAMU) students and alumni seeking jobs and internships.
During the Spring 2021 Career and Professional Development Center’s Virtual Career & Internship Expo Wednesday, 1,383 attendees participated in one-on-one sessions with the 162 employers registered for the twice-yearly event. The event was conducted on the Handshake digital platform also known to students as HireARattler.
A total of 1,128 students registered for the one-day Expo. Of those, 973 students attended at least one group session. Alumni were also eligible to participate in the digital event.
Before the Expo, students signed up to meet with employers individually for 10 minutes or for 30-minute group sessions. Students attending the Expo were encouraged to complete their schedules and take advantage of both group and individual sessions.
Marie Smallwood, assistant director of the Career and Professional Development Center, said she was impressed with the way students responded.
“Students showed they’re serious about their careers. They came prepared and focused,” Smallwood said. “We look forward to hearing about their job offers and internships.”
