TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Pastor Anton G. Elwood of New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church will deliver the keynote speech during Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) Summer 2013 Commencement ceremony on Friday, August 2 at 6 p.m. in the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
Elwood is known for delivering poignant messages that are pertinent to contemporary issues. His motto is that each person should be “restless until they affirm that they have reached their pinnacle.”
According to Elwood, he has a strong desire to reach the masses with a word to empower.
He has served as pastor since September 2005 when he was appointed to Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Boynton Beach, Fla. He has served as pastor of New Mt. Zion since 2008 and has led an effort where the church has experienced exponential growth.
A native of New Orleans, La., Elwood received his master’s of divinity in psychology of religion, pastoral care and counseling from the Interdenominational Theological Center, and a bachelor’s degree in religion/philosophy from Bethune-Cookman University. Additionally, he has also been accepted into the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio to pursue a doctor of ministry degree.
Elwood is married to Shawana Alicia Elwood. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Kaylin Alyse. Pastor Elwood is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
