Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) Cooperative Extension Program, in conjunction with RiverWay South, is hosting a one-day workshop titled, “Cultivating Your Future in Agritourism.”
The workshop will assist Big Bend Area farmers with expanding their agricultural enterprise through incorporating tourism as a means of income. The workshop will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Research and Education Center, located at 155 Research Rd. in Quincy, Fla.
Jane Eckert, an expert on agritourism, will be the featured speaker. Eckert will share examples of farmers across North America reaping the benefits of this growing form of tourism. Attendees will learn about the components of an agritourism destination, how to build new enterprises and how to market agritourism activities to the public.
Registration is required to attend the workshop. The fee is $25 per person and limited space is available.
From Feb. 25-28, internationally recognized seed-saving pioneer, Ira Wallace, will be the featured speaker at several workshops for local food growers and community members interested in learning how to save seed or preserve local seed bio diversity. The workshops will also include tips on maintaining small farm sustainability and information on the importance of organic seeds.The workshops are presented by the Extension’s Statewide Small Farm Program in collaboration with IFAS, Transitions Sarasota Movement and local small farmers.
