FAMU Law Dean A. Felecia Epps Rallies College of Law Community to Stand Together Against Hate
The following message is from Dean Angela Felecia Epps:
In the wake of the tragedy that occurred in Downtown Orlando Sunday morning, we at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law offer our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of all those affected.
This tragedy took place a short distance from the College of Law, and at this time, we do not know whether any of those killed or injured are members of the FAMU Law community – be it student, staff, faculty or alumni. We may never fully understand why innocent people are the victims of violent acts. Still, it is during times like these that we must unite as a community to stand against divisiveness and hate.
The College of Law will be open on Monday, and we are working with officials on the main campus to ensure counseling services are available to those who may need assistance.
The following information may be helpful to you as we navigate this tragedy. Anyone with information on the attack at Pulse Night Club should contact the FBI, at 1-800-CALL-FBI.Those who are in search of family members may call the City of Orlando hotline at 407-246-4357. In addition, the City of Orlando will publish the names of victims once family members have been notified at the following site: http://www.cityoforlando.net/blog/victims/.
If you would like to help immediately please consider donating blood, as there is a need for O negative and O positive blood for shooting victims who are still in surgery. You can visit the www.oneblood.org to find a donation center or Big Red Bus in your area.
Given the amount of national attention this tragedy has garnered, you can also expect an increase in traffic congestion during your commute, especially in the Downtown Orlando area, as parts of Orange Avenue will remain closed. We ask for your patience as our federal, regional and local law enforcement officials continue with the investigation. In addition, we ask for your increased vigilance, in being aware of your surroundings at all times.
As this situation unfolds, and we learn more about this senseless act, no doubt we may eventually know someone who is directly affected. Continue to care for yourself, each other and your family.
