Hello Rattlers,
Welcome to another exciting issue of FAMU Forward where we share the latest exciting news and achievements of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
On last week we were enthused to witness more than 1,100 Rattlers proudly enter the ranks of FAMU alumni during spring commencement exercises. Graduates and families in attendance were inspired by the encouraging words of three commencement speakers, to include, Arnold Donald, president and chief executive officer of Carnival Corporation & PLC, the largest travel and leisure company in the world; Roslyn M. Brock, chair emeritus of the NAACP Board of Directors and vice president for Advocacy and Government Relations for Bon Secours Health System, Inc.; and Thomas W. Dortch Jr, a member of the FAMU Board of Trustees and chairman and CEO of TWD, Inc.
As we transition into the summer phase of the academic year, I encourage all students to remain focused on achieving their respective goals. Whether completing an internship, taking classes or taking a little time to recharge, students who keep their eyes on the prize will reap the most benefits from their hard work and dedication.
FAMU is on the rise, led by a recently reported 40 percent increase in admissions application when compared to last year. With this in mind, it is imperative that we share Florida A&M University’s rich history with prospective students whenever possible. This weekend I have the honor of meeting a few more of the best and brightest students in America at the Academic Signing Day Ceremony of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project in Miami. The program, which was founded by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, will include the formal presentation of 62 scholarly young men, of which several have been accepted and are planning to attend FAMU.
In just a few weeks we will converge on the exciting city of Baltimore, Maryland for the annual NAA Alumni Convention. A highly informative and engaging experience has been planned by NAA President Lt. Col. (Ret.) Gregory Clark and his enthusiastic team of leaders within the association. Through gatherings such as this, we can ensure the most comprehensive steps are taken to provide the best education possible to our students. As alumni and supporters of the University, you are our greatest recruiters and remain irreplaceable members of the FAMU dynasty. I look forward to meeting and speaking with many of you during the convention.
See you in Baltimore Rattlers!
