The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Men’s Tennis team will open the 2017 NCAA Division I Tournament against the 13th ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs at the Dan McGill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia on May 12.
The Rattlers (11-11), winners of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will face off against the host Bulldogs (18-7), winners of the Southeastern Conference in one opening round match at 2 p.m., preceded by an 11 a.m. match between the 22nd ranked University of South Florida (17-8) of The American Athletic Conference, and Duke University (16-9) of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Friday’s match winners will meet the following day on Saturday, May 13, at 3 p.m.
This will be only the second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance for FAMU, which made its’ only previous postseason trip in 2000, in the opening round against the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Meanwhile, the May 12 match-up marks the 39th NCAA Tournament appearance and the 34th-consecutive NCAA bid for the Bulldogs. Georgia has won six NCAA National Championships as a team (1985, 1987, 1999, 2001, 2007 and 2008).
Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for children and students, and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, starting one hour before all matches.
