Florida A&M University (FAMU) will be closed Friday, April 19, from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m., and FAMU DRS will be closed Friday in anticipation of an approaching thunderstorm. The FAMU Crestview, Fla., campus will also be closed from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Big Bend area early Friday morning. The storm is expected to affect Tallahassee between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., Friday and could bring up to 1.5 inches of rain and wind gusts of more than 80 mph.
During the storm, there is also a potential for tornado formation. A tornado watch will be issued later this evening or Friday morning. We are asking that you use caution if you are traveling between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., Friday.
If you do not have to travel, we ask that you remain indoors away from windows and doors until the storm has passed. The storm is expected to last between 30 and 60 minutes once it hits. We will keep you informed of any impact on campus operations.
