FAMU Student Wins $10,000 Scholarship

FAMU Student Wins $10,000 Scholarship

Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Business and Industry (SBI) student Sha’Riauna Campbell is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship.

Campbell of Savannah, Georgia, won the Aspire Presents More Than Tea Tour Scholarship after devising and executing a creative marketing campaign in a contest in which she was pitted against students from other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Campbell was delighted when she received the news on Monday.

“This $10,000 scholarship is a dream come true. It aids in providing funds for college while also giving me with the opportunity to help and inspire minority individuals,” said Campbell, who hopes to launch a youth outreach program. “That is my goal when we return on campus.”

The contest was hosted by Aspire, which does leadership and wellness training and teambuilding for companies and nonprofits, as well as for students. Aspire co-founder Patrick Walker-Reese, who delivers motivational speeches and works with HBCU student leaders, visited FAMU last fall at the invitation of Mr. and Mrs. FAMU.

Campbell attended the event and decided to submit a two-minute video of FAMU campus highlights to contest the Aspire scholarship opportunity. Her initial video placed among the top five entries, while her second video earned her a spot among the three finalists.

Campbell impressed Walker-Reese and the Aspire team with her creativity, marketing skills, her willingness to “go above and beyond” and her ability to rally the FAMU community. That epitomized what the scholarship program is all about.

“We think you have a bright future and hope this scholarship gets you closer to your ultimate goals while bettering others along the way,” Aspire’s Director of Communications and Operations Christina V. Raiford told Campbell in her congratulatory email.

While Campbell is a first-year student, her dual-enrollment credits from high school qualify her to be a junior. After completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration.

“Nothing pleases me more than to see our students accomplish great things in and outside the classroom,” said SBI Dean Shawnta Friday-Stroud, Ph.D. “We are proud of Sha’Riauna and look forward to her continued success in SBI, at FAMU, and in all her future endeavors.”
