The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Office of University Retention will host Advisement Day at Tallahassee Community College (TCC) on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the TCC Student Union Ballroom.
Representatives from FAMU’s colleges and schools will be on site to provide TCC students with academic updates on admissions criteria and highlight the university’s degree programs. The event will commence with a meet-and-greet at 8:30 a.m. and culminate with a college showcase and one-on-one advising sessions from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Advising Day is a component of the TCC2FAMU program, which offers TCC students who meet program milestones guaranteed admission to FAMU. The program is a partnership between FAMU and TCC designed to provide a smooth transition for students who wish to complete their associate degree at TCC and receive a bachelor’s degree from FAMU.
TCC is the No.1 transfer school to FAMU and is No.1 among all two-year colleges in the nation in graduating students with associate degrees. According to Community College Week’s 2013 report, TCC was ranked No. 5 among national two-year colleges in awarding associate degrees to African-American students.
According to FAMU’s Office of University Retention, the caliber of TCC’s faculty and academic programs ensure that TCC students are prepared to excel in FAMU’s degree programs, graduate on time and meet the high demands of the 21st century workforce. Nearly 60 percent of FAMU’s transfer students are TCC alums.
TCC2FAMU participants who maintain a 2.5 GPA or above and display academic excellence may be eligible to receive FAMU’s Florida Community College Transfer Scholarship. The two-year scholarship is awarded to associate degree transfer students and ranges from $1,500 – $5,000, based on the applicants GPA and academic achievements.
In addition to Advisement Day, FAMU provides advising services to TCC students throughout the academic year in the Rattler Room, an office housed in TCC’s Student Union and staffed with FAMU representatives.
